Why York?

A high-performing club

At UYBC, we pride ourselves on being a club of high-achievers

Our senior programme is built to enhance the rowing talent of our athletes, and our development programme excels at taking those with little-to-no prior experience and creating competent, confident rowers

Rowing is for everyone

Every member of UYBC is just as important as the other; this ethos is the basis of our club, and is what makes rowing at York so special

historic city

York is ranked as the second friendliest place to live in the UK, according to Rest Less (2024)

With over a millennia of history, there is never a lack of things to do and see, from the iconic York Minster to any of the over 350 pubs that the city boasts

The University is situated just outside of the city centre, in the village of Heslington. Buses run regularly between the city and both campuses; alternatively, you can cycle in less than 15 minutes, and all the main routes into the city have designated cycle lanes

vibrant social scene

UYBC has the second biggest member base of any sports club at York

We are an extremely close-knit, social club — which helps create a sense of unity and belonging, and allows every member to push each other to their limits

We hold weekly socials; whether we’re dressed up in togas, binbags, or rowing kit, you wont struggle to find us in York’s (in)famous Wednesday Salvos. In the summer months, we regularly host BBQs at the boathouse

The club comes together formally three times in the year: the Winter Formal, the Annual Dinner and Henley Royal Drinks
