The regatta of the biggest varsity event in the country. 2019 hosted by York.
British Rowing World Class Start
The University of York is one of 12 World Class Start centres in the UK. The boathouse is situated less than 10 minutes from university campus and offers access to 23km of uninterrupted river. With state of the art land facilities on the University campus to complement this, York is the ideal place to begin an Olympic career.
Staff & Community
We set up our staff and community branch of the club to encourage uni staff and local residents to learn a new skill and keep fit, plus to entice experienced rowers back on to the water for some fun recreational paddling and local racing! The club is run by volunteers, frequently assisted by our lovely student rowers, coxes and coaches. We really enjoy the relaxed paddling in the summer evenings after work, and love to see the city from a different perspective.
Just two hours north of London by rail, the city of York holds 1900 years' worth of history in its ancient walls. The Romans built the city in 71 AD, and the Vikings captured it in 866 AD. Stop by the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens and then move onto the York Castle Museum. With enough pubs to visit a different one every day of the year there's never a dull moment in York.
