Recreational Rowing

YURow

The York University Rowing squad developed a few years ago from the former staff and community branch with the goal of creating a recreational squad that welcomes everyone to join a wonderful sport. From this, the phonetic “You Row” was created to help envisage the aims of our squad.

  • At YURow, our squad is driven by a shared passion for rowing, with an aim to inspire as many individuals as possible to give the sport a try. We are committed to create an environment where everyone can flourish, from people who have had years of rowing experience to those who are eager to explore the sport.

  • Though we are mainly a recreational squad, many members choose to compete in local races around York and in surrounding areas and we encourage every squad member to get involved with as much or as little as they want.

  • It is about creating a supportive family environment that runs both water and land training sessions, which are all optional, to allow you the ability to row whenever you would like, working around your schedule.

  • YURow is heterogeneous in its composition and is experiencing rapid growth, training multiple times a week at a separate time to our racing squads. This, together with the option to join their land training and socials, ensures that we participate in the friendly club atmosphere that all appreciate.
